Katie was born in September
1992 and soon followed the familiy tradition of supporting Chelsea
FC, often going to watch them with parents Debbie and Martin, and older
brother, Tom.
She always enjoyed helping other people
and that is why after her death, at the age of just six, her family
and friends were determined to keep her name alive in the most appropriate
way possible.
Katie was first taken ill at Christmas
1997 and the following month she was diagnosed with a medulloblastoma
brain tumour which had also spread to her spinal cord.
She was taken to Newcastle General Hospital
where she underwent a six-hour operation to remove the main tumour and,
over the following months, received intensive radiotherapy and chemotherapy
treatment.
Throughout her ordeal she showed tremendous
courage, character and bravery and in October 1998 she had a clear scan.
Sadly, however, she was taken ill
again the following Christmas and died in March 1999.
