WE rely on  the generosity and hard work of our very many supporters both at home and overseas in order to to continue our work - but we are always looking for more and there are many ways you can help.

Gift Aid

If you pay tax, Gift Aid is a scheme by which you can give a sum of money to The Katie Trust and we can reclaim from the Inland Revenue the basic rate tax on your gift. That increases the value of the gift you make to us. For example, if you gave us £10 using Gift Aid in the tax year 2000/01, that gift was worth £12.82 to The Katie Trust.

You can make payments by cash, cheque, postal order, direct debit or standing order. Subject to a few rules, you can give any amount, large or small, regular or one-off, and we can reclaim the tax.

If you are a higher rate taxpayer, you can claim relief on the difference between the basic rate and higher rate of tax.

You must

  • pay at least as much tax as we will reclaim on your gifts in the tax year in which you make them (tax credits on dividend income will count towards the tax paid). The tax year runs from 6 April in one year to 5 April in the next.

  • make a declaration to us that you want your gift to be treated as a Gift Aid donation

  • not receive excessive benefits in return for your gift.

Payroll Giving

Payroll giving has been around since 1986, but this year is special. First the Government has removed the upper limit for donations. Even better, until April 2004 the Government will "top up" every Payroll Giving donation by an extra 10%.

Payroll Giving offers us a regular source of income that can be relied upon in a way that one-off donations cannot - month in month out.

There are some 22 million people paid through PAYE who could be using the scheme. The potential for donations is huge. But up until now the opportunity has not been taken up to the full. Please click on thr link below to browse through the inland revenue site to find out what they're doing and what you can do to make the most of Payroll Giving.  http://inlandrevenue.gov.uk

Sponsored events

Perhaps you would like to organise or take part in a sponsored event. For example, we can provide guaranteed entries to the BUPA Great North Run and we will have a team of 30 competing in this year's event.

We can provide sponsorship forms, posters and information about The Katie Trust so, if you are interested, please let us know.

Fund raising

Maybe you would like to support the fund-raising events we organise ourselves. We have staged two daring abseils from the Tyne Bridge in Gateshead and our most recent event was a ten-pin bowling charity challenge at the Hollywood Bowl in Stockton - let us know if you would like to be added to our mailing list.

If you would like to volunteer as a helper at any of our events, or if you have any fund-raising suggestions, we would love to hear from you.

Merchandise

The Katie Trust always has merchandise available including mugs, tee-shirts, pencils and rubbers, and every Christmas we have a unique specially-designed selection of colourful Christmas cards for sale - in fact we have some left if you fancy stocking up early for next Christmas.

There are also ways in which you can help without it costing you a penny!

  • Many companies have a nominated charity each year - and the one they choose is often down to suggestions from members of staff. So why not tell your boss about The Katie Trust?
  •  Or maybe your local pub, club or sports association is looking for a charity to support - just tell us if you want some literature and we'll put it in the post!
Other ways we have benefited have included:
  • receiving the proceeds from the sale of unwanted goods
  • supporters asking for donations in lieu of birthday/wedding presents
  • collections
  • collection boxes
  • raffles
Please help us if you can
